242 - Made with Creativity

Day 242. This drawing was made using the word "creativity" and drawn using the TypeDrawing app. Like many of my sketches I just started making lines on the page and allowed them to dictate where things went. Maybe this dreadlocked face subconsciously came from watching Cool Runnings last night? Who knows...

237 - Searching for Creativity

Day 237. A student of mine visited the Museum of Contemporary Art recently and showed me a series of photos she took there with her new fisheye lens.I particularly liked this one, so I thought I'd make something similar, because, well, everything is a remix.  So I printed this page of Google Search results for the word "creativity" then got a ruler, pencil, scissors and glue, cut up the paper and glued it back together like this. Then I photographed it with my Nexus 5, manipulated it a bit in Photoshop, and here is the result.

218 - Story Starters

Day 218. This collection of phrases was made using an app called PoetryMagnets, which is similar to other poetry generation apps I've used. I don't like this one as much though as it doesn't seem to offer any of those small joining words that help put other words into sentences, so all. Ended up with was these disjointed phrases. But it could be useful as a story starter, giving students a set of phrases like this and building a story around them.

208 - Black Swan

Day 208. This image was made using an iPad app called WordFoto, and it applied to a photograph I took in Canberra of a black swan. Interesting effect I think.

066 - Textual Archaeology

Day 66. After yesterday's daily create was crossposted to Google+ it received a comment from +Neil Boyd that referred me to the work of an artist named Tom Philips. In his comment, Neil also used the term "palimpsest", which I had never come across before. Being the curious person that I am, I looked up the term and was fascinated by it. You can read the Wikipedia article if you want to learn more, but it inspired today's daily create.

This was made on an iPad mini using the Notability app and a Jot Script stylus, then exported to the camera roll and applying the Noir filter. The text comes from the Wikipedia article about Palimpsests, which is published under a Creative Commons BY-SA licence.

Thanks for expanding my vocabulary Neil!

063 - What Are Words Worth?

Day 63. One very popular tool for educators are tag cloud generators such as Wordle. However, being Java based, Wordle doesn't really work on most tablets. So I was interested to find this app called Word Salad, which does pretty much exactly what Wordle does, but on the iPad. It's really easy to use and has quite nice output, and it easy to customise. Today's daily create is a tag cloud based on the About page from this blog.
