359 - Merry Christmas

Day 359. As the year draws to a close and there are just a few more daily creates to go, here is a hand drawn Santa for you, made using Paper by 53, and text added with Adobe Photoshop Touch. Hope your Christmas - or whatever you celebrate at this time of year - was great. Ho ho ho.

286 - Wizardry

Day 286. Spotted this neat little tool for drawing online called Sketch Toy at http://sketchtoy.com. It let you draw directly in the browser using just a mouse or trackpad (or a stylus pen if you have one) This wizard grew out of a scribble on the screen with my trackpad on the Mac...  just kept adding scribbles until it turned into something... started as a ghost, ended up a wizard Or a witch. I have no idea.

284 - Mr Standoffish

Day 284. Today I was messing about in a new tool from Adobe called Adobe Draw. It's an iPad app that uses vector strokes, but the neat thing is that it can sync directly back to Illustrator on the desktop. Haven't tried that yet, but this is just a first sketch that came out as I was playing with it...  just a few lines on the screen and it became this drawing. No idea why. But I like the tool...

242 - Made with Creativity

Day 242. This drawing was made using the word "creativity" and drawn using the TypeDrawing app. Like many of my sketches I just started making lines on the page and allowed them to dictate where things went. Maybe this dreadlocked face subconsciously came from watching Cool Runnings last night? Who knows...

129 - Angry Young Man

Day 129. After a long day at the end of a long week, I just fired up Adobe Illustrator tonight and scratched out this stylised face. I had no particular goal or idea, I just dragged a few lines on the page (with a trackpad, not a stylus) using the Blob Tool in Illustrator, and turned it into this rather angry young man.

And no, I'm not actually angry myself. :-)

104 - Being Krong

Day 104. I'm sure that nobody really sets out to fail, but we definitely need to build more tolerance to failure onto our daily lives.

097 - Steve

Day 97. I'm a bit out of practice when it comes to drawing, but I thought I'd give it a go. Using a Jot Adonit stylus and a copy of 53's amazing app called Paper, I had a go at drawing Steve Jobs from the cover of the Walter Isaacson biography. It's not a great likeness, but if you're familiar with the book I'm sure you'd recognise it as Steve.

I actually used the upside-down drawing technique, as described by Betty Edwards in the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Still a great read even though it's many years old now. If you're into art and drawing, it's worth a read.

042 - Don't Forget!

Day 42. After 42 days of making a daily creative thing each day, I finally forgot last night and went to bed without making one. Oops. So I'm making up for it this morning with this drawing made using the app called Paper by 53. It's a beautifully designed app! This is a sketch I just made with my right hand, of my left hand with a piece of string tied to a finger to help me not forget again.

I really like the "papery" nature of Paper, and considering you're drawing on an iPad screen the pencil tool does look remarkably like a real pencil. I used a Jot Pro stylus to draw with, which certainly helps a lot.

028 - Staff Meeting by Numbers

Day 28. Back to school! It's apparently my annual birthday present... every year I seem to resume work on my birthday. Anyway, I was sitting in a staff meeting this morning and snapped a photo using an iPad app called Paper Camera. It does a line art treatment to the photo, and then I opened it in Photoshop Touch, duplicated the layer and hand painted the line art with brushes set to low opacity.

019 - Amaziograph Patterns

Day 19. I spent most of today working on the backyard renovation (coming soon as a Daily Create hopefully) so today's effort is a fairly simple one. This pattern was made using an iPad app called Amaziograph. It's got several very cool symmetry and patterning options, just pick one and draw away... It would be very useful when teaching kids about symmetry, patterning, repetition, etc.

Thanks to Cathy Hunt from the iPad Artroom for putting me onto this app.
