356 - Balinese Doors

Day 356. One of the lovely aspects of wandering around Bali is seeing all the beautiful doors that lead off the main streets: some highly ornate and others very simple. Some lead to family home complexes, some to temple areas, and others, who knows? But they look delightful and are a real part of the cultural landscape there. These are six doors that caught my eye, shot with my Nikon D7000, tweaked and treated in Adobe Lightroom and arranged with Diptic for Mac.

350 - Door 30D

Day 350. While walking through the back streets of Sanur last night with Linda, Tony and Jane I noticed this interesting doorway to a Balinese family complex. Photo was taken in very low light with my Nexus 5, then treated in Snapseed with several filters and effects to create this result.

342 - Roots and All

Day 342. I photographed these lovely old tree roots on the trees in the grounds of Jakarta Intercultural School, and applied a few filters in the Android camera app, then used Diptic to arrange this three panel triptych.

320 - Magic Kingdom

Day 320. There used to be an old amusement park for kids not far from where I live, but it's abandoned now, overgrown with weeds and most of the "attractions" now little more than rusting hulks of metal. This is a HDR photo I took there, editing in Photoshop.

306 - The Journey

Day 306. More experimentation with FontCandy+. It's a simple app, but has some interesting creative potential for combining pictures and words in interesting ways. Photo taken by me from the Telstra Tower in Canberra with a shift-tilt effect added in post.

305 - Live Life

Day 305. I was messing around with an app called FontCandy+ and created this. It uses a combination of two photos I took earlier this year, one of the girls in the park and the other of just a blurry shot with some remnants of some Snapseed processing. Combine them and add some text, and this is the result.

282 - Education Free

Day 282. Today's create is a bit of a blast from the past. Tomorrow I'm having lunch with my friend Jackie from art school. We met way back in 1981 and at one point we were in the same photography course and I remember walking around the city taking photos with her. I took this photo of her in York Street back in 82(?), which I found as I looked through a pile of old artworks so I'm scanning it and including it here. It was too big for the scanner tray so I had to do it in pieces and put it back together in Photoshop.

272 - Glenelg Sunset

Day 272. For our last night in Adelaide, Linda and I visited the seaside suburb of Glenelg. I took the camera and got a few snaps as the sun went down. I thought this shot turned out pretty good. It was taken in RAW format and got a few small tweaks in Adobe Lightroom, but this is more or less how it came out of the camera.

257 - Whale of a Time

Day 257. Today's daily create is a couple of photos I took when Linda and I went whale watching today about 15 nautical miles off the Sydney coastline. We managed to find this huge humpback playing in the waters on her way back to Antarctica, and although she was playing hard to get she did come up to the surface a couple of times and I managed to snap these photos. Shot on a Nikon D7000, post processing in Adobe Lightroom.

Beautiful creatures...

225 - Juxtaposition of Geometry

Day 225. I was walking the rather deserted streets of Queanbeyan tonight and I spotted this lovely juxtaposition of geometrical shapes embedded into the footpath outside the Royal Hotel. After a bit of tweaking in SnapSeed to add some depth and drama I rather like the contrast of the black vs white, and the round vs square.

188 - Southbank Triptych

Day 188. After spending a full day working in Brisbane I went for an evening stroll across the river and took a couple of shots down on Southbank which I then arranged into this little triptych using Diptic. It was a little chilly with not many people around, and it's a very different place when it's quiet like this.

184 - Gullible

Day 184. Over the weekend I moved my entire photo collection from Apple's Aperture to Adobe Lightroom, and in the process I've been working through a Lightroom course on www.lynda.com. I'm very pleased with the move... I really like Lightroom, and the Lynda course has been an excellent way to get to grips with some of Lightroom's more advanced features. This was one of the images I came up with as I played around in it and although I took this photo of seagulls quite a while ago, it was nice to revisit it by using the HSL filters to strip the saturation out of all the colours except orange.

183 - Closeups

Day 183. I was playing with a macro lens in my Nikon D7000 and just snapping some closeups of plants in the back yard. I took a couple and arranged them using the Diptic app, and here they are.

171 - A Gaggle of Googlers

Day 171. This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago, but I was playing around with an app called Paper Camera tonight and used it to apply some filter fun to the image. I then brought it back to the camera roil on the iPad and made a few more adjustments to it there. Looks quite cartoonish.

158 - Late Bloomers

Day 158. Despite the fact that we are already in Winter here in Australia, the excessively stunning weather we have been having lately seems to have confused the plants a little. These photos, taken on my Nexus 5 phone using the new blur mode in the camera and then processed using the camera's built in editing tools, are from the small eucalyptus tree in our back yard. The blur mode give a lovely shallow depth of field effect to the shots. They were then arranged into these four panels using the Diptic app for Android.

152 - In Vivid Colour

Day 152. The Sydney Vivid light festival is in full swing in Sydney at the moment and it's pretty amazing. The city is lit up with fabulous projections, lightshows, art, sculpture, sound, installations and talks. Last night I went into the city with my buddy Allan to take photos, as part of a night shooting photography workshop run by a local camera store.

I took a lot of photos on the night but these were just a few of my favourite shots of my favourite building, turned into a Gif.

147 - Step Into The Light

Day 147. Tonight I was just messing about with a couple of apps on the iPad, and I took a #selfie using Paper Camera, then imported it into Adobe Photoshop Touch and added some filters and effects, including this lighting effect.

144 - In Vivid Detail

Day 144. The Sydney Vivid Festival started this week and we went into the city last night to celebrate out friend Carla's birthday at the Opera Bar. The photo opportunities during Vivid are
boundless, but for today's create here is a panorama shot taken from east Circular Quay using the Pano feature of the new Android Camera on my Nexus 5. (Click to enlarge)

137 - Getting Shit Done

Day 137. I was cleaning up my hard drive and I found a folder full of Linda's old photos. I particularly liked this one of her in "corporate mode", sitting at her big fancy desk full of folders, taking notes and talking on her curly-cord telephone. She looks very business-like.

Google+ has a great built-in feature for photos which allows you to easily add "meme text". So I used that to add some (in)appropriate text and create this little reminder that she is not a woman to be messed with when she's getting shit done.

132 - Just Hanging Around

Day 132. Out for a walk through my local shops, and things got a little crazy. Good thing I have a tight hold on that pole!
