283 - TV Cartoons

Day 283. Using an iPad app called CartoonCam, I took a bunch of shots of the TV screen tonight and turned them into this manga style cartoon block.

269 -Oops!

Day 269. Over the course of this Daily Create project I've discovered a bunch of really interesting apps that let you take an photo with the iPad camera and process it into something quite graphically different. This image was made using the app CartoonCam, using an image taken randomly from my TV screen, and hints at a medical disaster...

171 - A Gaggle of Googlers

Day 171. This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago, but I was playing around with an app called Paper Camera tonight and used it to apply some filter fun to the image. I then brought it back to the camera roil on the iPad and made a few more adjustments to it there. Looks quite cartoonish.

167 - Office Politics

Day 167. I was having a play with Pixton for Schools, an amazing comic strip editor that runs in a browser. It's impressive in what it can do and intuitive to use... this silly little sample was made in about 5 minutes (don't ask me where the story came from, I have no idea). I like the fact that you can sign in using a Google Apps account (very useful at my school) and that it all runs and saves in the cloud. It's not free, but the pricing model is one that actually makes sense for school. Definitely need to find a good use for this next term!

085 - Comical Couple

Day 85. These photos of Linda and I were taken a while ago in Canberra, and can't even remember what app I used to put us in the film frames. But tonight I found an iPhone app called Comic Touch, currently free on the App Store. It's from Plasq, the same people who make Comic Life. It's a much simpler, one frame comic maker, but pretty good for making a single, simple comic image like this one.

062 - Stealing Second Bass

Day 62. My son dropped by tonight to pick up a bass guitar that belonged to a friend of his. As he took away this bass, which was one of two basses I had in the house, the pun "stealing second bass" came to my mind. I'm always one to enjoy a good visual pun so I set up this photo with Alex holding the second bass guitar, took it with my Nexus 4 phone, dropped it into Adobe Photoshop CC and after a bit of manipulation ended up with this image.

The original photo was duplicated onto a couple of layers, had a stamp filter applied to it at different intensities, then the layers were merged to combine the best exposures to bring out the details in the right places. Then I used a Wacom tablet and the brush tools to paint in the coloured background by hand. I was originally thinking of a quite different graphic effect, but as I worked on it I quite liked the emergence of the flat pastel look so the image went that direction instead.

055 - Hat Heads

Day 55. Using an iPad app called Strip Design, I imported a couple of photos of Linda and I and applied a few filters to spruce them up (or down, depending on your point of view) and then arranged them in this film frame. Lots more you can do with this app, so I'm sure I'll play with it further.

I am enjoying the way this daily create is pushing me to explore more apps than I ever used to and to see what they are capable of producing. Certainly as we go BYO iPads this year at school I think it's been really valuable to spend more time playing with mine.

054 - Robots Galore

Day 54. I found this cute little app called Abby Robots. It's kind of basic but it lets you create your own robots by mixing and matching the head, body, legs and background. Once I made a few robot variants I used Diptic to put them all in a frame together. Danger Will Robinson, Danger!
